Employees, who make up the backbone of the organization, have experienced a great shift in the company culture in the past few months. Ultimately, research suggests that putting effort into improving the culture of a company can have a strong positive impact on many different aspects of the organization. The idea is simple: when employees are treated right, then the service that our employees provide to clients becomes better and better. However, while the idea is simple, putting this practice into effect requires a number of steps that incrementally improve the culture.
Perhaps nothing is more important that improving the location where employees work. Recently, the Wyomissing office at 1170 Berkshire Blvd., has seen a number of great changes. The carpet has been replaced with a darker hardwood flooring in the lobby and main halls while office carpeting has been upgraded to a modern look. While these changes drastically improve the building’s aesthetic, there is a real purpose to these changes. The hardwood floor makes the building easier to traverse for our volunteers and visitors with canes and wheelchairs. Our employees that have rolling bags full of equipment and supplies also find moving around easier.
In addition to the floors, the walls have also seen an upgrade with a fresh coat of paint. The walls went from white to a warmer sand color which works in tandem with the new floor and carpet to create a cheery and welcoming atmosphere.
The outside of the office has also gotten a new significant tech upgrade with brand new automatic doors. The entry way has been treated to new windows and a modern light that makes the building extremely welcoming and easy to enter.
The biggest addition to the front of our building is one that was a surprise to many employees. Outside of the new doors usually sits one of the organization’s brand new cars. The fleet is comprised of 2016 Hyundai Elantras and Toyota Corollas. The cars, all white with our logos large on the side and phone number/website on the back bumper, were from Freedom Auto Group and awarded to over 25 of the organizations best employees for hard work and dedication. These cars went home with the employees and came with the most up-to-date technology including heated seats, satellite radio, Bluetooth, rear cameras and a number of other advanced features. A gas card was also provided so these employees didn’t even have to pay for gas.
The employees were surprised at the first ever Employee Forum event, where not only were the car awarded, but employees were also given news that the day before a major holiday would be a half day and those in the office could go home early to be with their families.
These changes have had an immediate impact. Employees are happier and productivity has gone up. It is a great step forward for the organization and there are more improvements planned throughout 2016. Most importantly, these steps provide better care for our community through happier and more dedicated employees!
